This bit has full cheeks and single joint copper mouthpiece.

The full cheeks keep a bit from sliding through the mouth, while the single joint creates a nutcracker action on the pallet. The copper encourages salivation, and most horse like the taste. A thinner mouthpiece is generally considered more severe than a thicker one.
